Our latest journey to Brazil started with a true honor: we were received by Ambassador Renato Mosca, who welcomed us with words about coffee as a cultural and economic bridge between Brazil and Europe.

From there, together with Massimiliano Damiano, Qahwa’s Purchasing Manager, we hit the road—straight into the heart of Brazil’s coffee world. Plantations stretching to the horizon, small facilities buzzing with activity, producers sharing their craft. It wasn’t just a trip; it was a deep dive into the story behind every bean.
Cerrado Mineiro coffee: a certified origin
Cerrado Mineiro coffee holds a unique spot in Brazil’s history: in 2013 it became the country’s first coffee to obtain a Protected Designation of Origin (DO).
Located in Minas Gerais, at altitudes between 800 and 1300 meters, Cerrado Mineiro is home to more than 4,500 producers and covers 250,000 hectares of land. Together they represent 12% of Brazil’s total coffee output. The terroir is unique: ancient soils, well-defined seasons, and a know-how passed down for generations.

80+ SCA points: what makes it special
Here’s the kicker: coffees from Cerrado Mineiro consistently hit 80+ points in SCA Fine Cup evaluations—the mark that defines true specialty coffee. That means flavor, balance, and complexity are guaranteed right from the cup.
The sensory profile includes:
- natural sweetness with balanced body
- fruity and floral notes
- hints of nuts and chocolate
- touches of toasted bread and even vinous accents
In short, Cerrado Mineiro coffee is as complex as it is enjoyable.
Sustainability baked in
Quality is only half the story. Cerrado Mineiro is also a frontrunner in sustainability:
- 70,000 hectares are Rainforest Alliance certified
- 30,000 hectares follow regenerative farming practices (Regenagri)
- all exporters already comply with EUDR standards for deforestation-free supply chains
Add to this a strict traceability system, and you’ve got a coffee that’s as transparent as it is tasty.
A global identity
Carrying the DO seal means more than just quality—it’s about identity. For producers, it’s recognition of their work; for consumers, it’s a guarantee that what’s in the cup is authentic.
Think of it like Parmigiano Reggiano or Brunello di Montalcino: a name tied to a land, a flavor, and a promise. Cerrado Mineiro coffee has joined that same league of iconic origins.

At the end of the day, Cerrado Mineiro coffee isn’t just grown—it’s crafted, protected, and celebrated. Choosing it means choosing a short, transparent supply chain, real sustainability, and a flavor that starts in Brazil but finishes in your cup.
